April 2nd: IM DONE!!!!!! I'm actually really proud of this piece, and although I could have done a lot better on the buildings and the atmospheric perspective, I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out :). update: I’m still not done but i’m so so close. I AM NOT DONE!!! I will have my finished piece and will post it by the end of Monday, this piece just took wayyyy longer than expected because I spent a ridiculous amount of time on the lake (3 whole days). So far, I've struggled a lot with the trees because I can't seem to get a nicer application of the lighter greens on the dark green using a palette knife which is why the shrubbery looks kind of gross. I'm quite pleased with how the lake turned out because it took SO long to perfect and to get all the colors. I will take a better picture later to show the true color of the lake which has much more green in it than it looks like in the picture, I'm struggling a lot with the houses because they are particularly hard to create using a palette knife, but I think that I have been able to do a decent job so far. I'm really excited to finish this piece today, and am a little worried about the atmospheric space in the top area of the canvas which I'm avoiding until I absolutely have to. Please tell me how you think I should make the trees because I really struggled with those, and I welcome any criticism because I still think this piece needs a LOT of work considering that I kind of just threw myself into the process of painting it without a lot of time to actually plan it (I changed my reference picture four days ago).

While I am still in the middle of copying Van Gogh's piece, I am trying to apply what I learned during that piece onto this piece. I have been wanting to paint this landscape for SO long. And i'm so hype to finally be doing just that. I'm scared that I will do a crappy job and then be mad at myself for messing up my favorite picture, but I'll try again if it doesn't end up nice. I've chosen to work on raw canvas again, and am going to work with a yellow underpainting. I should, in hindsight, have chosen a much larger canvas, but I think that this can be more of a gestural piece and then I can do a detailed drawing later. I think that this will allow me to expand\
I have made some progress on my copy piece. i realized how difficult it is to match Van Gogh's style because I have no idea how he made such a thin and smooth underpainting. I realized that he used brushes, but I'm trying to make the same effect using on palette knife. Hopefully, the trees balance some of the colors out, because currently it looks a little off to me. I worked a LOT on the foreground, because I needed to work on my atmospheric perspective, and hopefully it will turn out looking realistic when I'm finished. I think I'll be done pretty soon, and I have some time-lapses to show my progress with the underpainting, but I can't post videos on here :/.
